One of the main reasons in planning our trip was to appreciate our lives at home, learn some stuff and expand all of our tolerance towards other cultures. In an effort to see what the kids think about this trip we thought it would be a good idea to have all of us answer a few questions. As you can see below, the responses were worth the effort...I have corrected spelling but not grammar or composition.
What country(ies) are you most excited to visit and why?
Jeff - New Zealand...I was there 18 years ago but am looking forward to actually seeing New Zealand this time. My lifestyle and priorities are much different now <wink>
Jacquie - South Africa (Cape Town) -as it looks like it would be the most beautiful place on earth (it appeared so on the Bachelor as well)
Easton - South Africa for temperature and safari. Peru for our hike and rain forest. Australia to swim in great barrier reef and surfing.
Elyssa - Africa because there is going to be a lot of animals but I will be excited to go everywhere to see different cities and taste different food but most of all I'm excited to go to New York since I'm going to get my ear's pierced and I love the lights or the plays and stores. Anyways it's New York what can you not like about New York but I'm excited to go every where.
What country(ies) are you least excited to visit and why?
Jeff - Peru...this is the 1st country of the trip and we will be on a very steep learning curve and it is going to be difficult to be away from work and break routines. Doesn't help that Lima isn't the safest either.
Jacquie - Vietnam (actually all the countries in South East Asia) as I am concerned about the food. I really don't want to eat fish or seafood. ( I may have to sneak extra granola bars into the backpack)
Easton - Australia because of giant insects, earthquakes. Thailand because of floods.
Elyssa - I'm least excited where people don't appreciate Canadians.
What is your biggest fear while travelling?
Jeff - Worrying about work.
Jacquie - Not having the familiar comfort of home, family and friends (not having control and having to take risks in uncomfortable and unknown situations). Also, always having to have your guard up and watching over your shoulder
Easton - Giant spiders or ants, getting sick, natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, tornadoes
Elyssa - Animals but even though I know I love animals but that's the problem the animals aren't trained so they are poisonous and sometimes they can kill you but I am not very sure actually.
What are you most looking forward to while travelling?
Jeff - Trying new things like foods and activities and seeing lots of different scenery and architecture.
Jacquie - Firstly, not having a schedule. Secondly, and to develop a memorable bond with Jeff and the kids and sharing the unforgettable experiences as a family.
Easton - Our hike, safari, swimming in the Great Barrier Reef and surfing.
Elyssa - LOTS OF STUFF IN NEW YORK! I think everything we do I'm going to like but also seeing different cities and taste different food trying new food and going in the airplane and when you go in the underground tunnel for parking and lots of other stuff.
What do you hope to learn, do or improve about yourself on this trip?
Jeff - Patience...I really hope the struggles of travel and 24/7 travelling with family helps me and doesn't destroy me
Jacquie - Taking the time to slow down, enjoy and appreciate the simple things and to develop a better appreciation for what we have back home (health, family, friends...). Also broaden the minds and perspectives of the kids by exposing them to new cultures, languages, experiences and unique opportunities.
Easton - Different languages, different cultures, food and structures and be happy with what I have.
Elyssa - To help other people more and try my best to learn a different language and to take care of my ears when I get them pierced
Are you going to miss anything while you are gone?
Jeff - Certainly not winter but am I honestly going to say work.
Jacquie - My own bed
Easton - Hockey, inline and track & field.
Elyssa - My friends, my school, my teachers, my room, my relatives, my house but most of all my dog Casey.
As you can see four totally different perspectives on our upcoming adventure, it will be interesting to ask the same similar questions when we arrive home and see what if anything has changed.
Bye For Now.
