We found sun!!! After arriving to Byron Bay on a rainy night we ended up having a couple excellent days on the beach and we were very sad to have to leave as this could be a permanent place to call home. We were able to get into surf lessons (www.style surfingbyronbay.com) which was so much fun and some of us were more natural than others. As you can see below we all got up successfully and funny thing the owner asked if he could use this photo in his company brochures and posters....I just hope it isn't in the "how not to" portion.
From there we headed up north surfing and swimming all the way through Surfer's Paradise, Mooloolaba and Noosa to Brisbane. We made a pit stop in Brisbane specifically to meet up with Jacquie's friend, Twila Moline's daughter Brittany and her friend Beth Anne. After taking them out for a non-backpacker meal we all went to a rugby league game which was the Brisbane Broncos home opener. Needless to say we didn't understand the rules but had a lot of fun and even the girls enjoyed it.
From Brisbane we headed up to Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay is our current stop as it is the main gateway to Fraser Island. Fraser island is a World UNESCO protected site and is the largest sand island in the world. Therefore, four wheel drives are only allowed on the island and with Jeff's driving track record so far we opted to hitch a ride on an organized day tour. Good thing we did as it was a hairy ride with our driver getting slowed up with the road conditions. All in all it was a fun and educational day with ship wrecks, crystal clear lakes and we even got to see Dingos up close.
From here now we are heading north through Bundaberg (Jeff's old home for 4 months) to the start of the Great Barrier Reef.
Bye for now!
